The Davis Cup Trophy Tour at The Rooms was the perfect venue to honour another of our country’s outstanding achievers. Anita Pushpanathan received Tennis Canada’s Distinguished Service Award for her over 20 years of giving to the sport.
In a moving acceptance speech, Anita paid special tribute to her parents for supporting her throughout an impressive playing career that included numerous provincial and Atlantic titles, reaching a national ranking as high as 13th in the country, and earning a full tennis scholarship to the University of Maryland where she was team MVP from 2001-2003.
Always a team player, Anita’s contributions to the sport of tennis have been outstanding. She has volunteered in several capacities, including serving on the Tennis Newfoundland & Labrador Board of Directors since 2013 as both Vice-President and Junior Development Representative.
According to Nancy Taylor, Past-President of TNL, “Anita has always been generous with her time and patience when it came to mentoring our junior players – on the court and behind the scenes. She has given significant time to practicing with, coaching, and counselling them, making them all better players.”
Thank you, Anita, and congratulations!
